Week four in the Men’s New Forest League

This week saw the Men play two New Forest Matches. On Tuesday 16th, we went to the coast to fulfil a rearranged fisture against Milford -on -Sea. The evening was beautiful as we played with the Needles in our sights. Unfortunately the Jack was not in our sights as we went down on all four rinks, hence losing 8-0. Just shows we are vulnerable.
On the other hand our scheduled home match against Verwood went a little better. The game finished with a shots score of 66-64 in our favour, and six points to 2. This is thanks to the two winning rinks of Colin, Steve, John; and Ivan, Simon and Charles. This puts us up to second in the League, but we have a game in hand on most Clubs.

Bustards v Bournemouth Broncos

After yesterday’s thunder storm, which left the green waterlogged, Patrick did a wonderful job this morning, to get the green playable.  Today, the weather was warm, dry & sunny, a lovely day for bowls.

The Bustards took their third win in a row, with Rosemary, Alan & Geoff winning convincingly 31-11, with 20 of those shots coming in the last 8 ends.

Tony, Paul T & Cathy drew 17-17, just missing out on the victory by a couple of centimetres.

Overall the Bustards won 48-28 to maintain second spot in the league.

Next week is a bye week. The following week we are away to Lyndhurst

Poole Park ‘D’ v Bustards

The Bustards took the sun with them and made the long trek to Poole Park ‘D’ looking for a second victory.
This was achieved by Tony, Paul & Cathy winning their rink 22-13, winning 8 ends to the opponents’ 10.
All three of our team played really well; scoring a 7, a 5 and two 3’s really helped the cause.
On the other rink, Rosemary, Alan & Ivan sadly went down 13-18. Three bad ends late on conceding two 3’s and a 4 did the damage. On this rink we won 10 ends to the opponents 8.
Overall, the Bustards won 35-31 and are now second in the league.
Next up: Bournemouth Broncos at home next Saturday with a 10am start – all spectators welcome.

NFL Result: Downton vs Braeside

Downton Men had another victory in the New Forest League, beating Braeside 84 shots to 65, gaining 7 points to 1.

Ivan Buss and his triple of Simon Stacey and Charles Burrows had a great game winning 26-13.

Geoff Warr snatched a win, for the second game running, on the last wood he bowled, 20-18.

Alan Waters, Alan Foster and Paul Fox, had an unfortunate incident when Paul had to withdrawal due to illness halfway through the match. This triple lost 23-18.

The triple led by Colin Morris, also had a comfortable win.

Well played everyone.

NFL DIV 3: Waterside v Downton

Downton made a big last minute effort on two rinks to gain overall victory. Geoff’s triple were level after the penultimate end, and four shots down with just skipper Warr to play the last wood with which he managed to pinch the shot wood.

Better than this; the triple of John James, Steve Allen and skip Colin Morris, were losing 15-10 and six shots down on the last end with just Colin to play the last wood. Colin trailed the jack to a waiting bunch of Downton woods and took five shots to level the score on this rink.

The other two rinks more or less cancelled one another with an easy victory and a hard loss.

A great match to start the season:

  • John, Steve and Colin Morris drew 15 – 15
  • Paul Fox, Alan Foster and Alan Waters won 19- 6
  • Martin D, Rod and Simon Stacey went down 10-24
  • Lewis, Paul Tanner and Geoff Warr won 14-13

The overall result: 4.5 points to Downton; 3.5 points to Waterside.

Rink 2 was Tony, Muriel & Cathy who lost 17-18, in a really tight, entertaining game.

Overall the score was 40-29, so the Bustards picked up 4 points and the hosts picked up 2.
